General Secretary Office
Mohamed Khalil GPST3, Glasgow. A former A/E speciality doctor in the UK & Dubai. A former medical director for both New Halfa and the New Halfa sugar factory hospital. Graduated from Baghdad in 2002. I began my role as EC officer in both the secretary and media and IT offices; then, due to EC shortage (resignation), I started as EC member at the Sudan office on December 30, 2023, and the activities were suspended amidst a national crisis. Operations were resumed in April 2024, supported by a dedicated SBPCA team committed to strengthening primary healthcare in Sudan. Our efforts prioritised engaging over 170 primary care physicians and trainees nationwide. We conducted a needs assessment survey, which guided the development of targeted educational support. A major milestone was signing an MoU between SBPCA and Primary Care International, granting new family medicine trainees a one-year subscription to PCI Academy’s online curriculum, approved by the Sudanese Speciality Board, with expansion plans underway. We also provided support to the Examination Committee of the Family Medicine medical board to replenish essential medical resources lost during the crisis. We also engaged with ESTHER, IHEED, and the Sudan Speciality Board to enhance training opportunities, develop reformed primary care models, and organise ministry-supported workshops. Discussions with the RCGP Chair explored avenues for further trainee support. To rebuild educational infrastructure, we plan to reactivate the Family Medicine Hub for over 2,000 global professionals, and these collective initiatives aim to sustain and advance family medicine in Sudan under extraordinary circumstances.
